Slow news day...

Virtually all VW names since the late 70s and early 80s are based on winds... it was a marketing thing with VW when they switched over to fuel injection and wanted cunsumers to see the "winds of change"

Golf: Gulf stream (not golf the game)
Bora: north-eastern katabatic wind
Scirocco: southeasterly to southwesterly wind over the Mediterranean
Passat: Passat is short for passatwind, a German word meaning "trade wind"
Vento: just translates to wind
Corrado: Not a wind, it's derived from Spanish Correr which means to run. The original name for the car was Taifun (Typhoon) which means huricane except it was already a registered trade mark for a GM truck.
Santana: hot desert wind accross the Sea of Cortez.
