Just got home. Took a shower for 20 minutes and had to soap three times haha. Kate's asleep already so I'm just trying to decompress for a second before passing out with a cold glass of hooch. I worked on Roxy for 15 hours straight today. Donald laid down 6+ coats of color, wetsanded in the middle and then laid down a couple thin coats of matte. When we left it was baking and was setting out perfectly. Hoping the white spots don't come back but he strained the matte 10 times so it should be good. Thanks to everyone who helped sand and prep tonight! Tomorrow we'll do the windshield and hopefully the exhaust. Then wednesday the stereo and finish up my moms project (as if I'll have the mental capacity to do anything by then.) Fuck my back hurts =) It was so worth it though. Everything. I'm still waiting for something to happen but god willing it will be smooth sailing or something. Whatever, we'll deal with it =) I think t_p may not be able to make it to H20 but I'm crossing fingers for him. Puilling for you buddy.

Been at the shop since 9:30am. Working straight. I have never been this exhausted before in my entire life. Anyhoo, the owner was at the shop today and instead of bitching, he actually taught me throughout the day which was AWESOME to say the least. I'm heading back now, just came home to feed the dog and regain my sanity for a minute. • glass guy came out and cut seals for rear 1/4's and hatch. Removed windshield. • installed A pillars • wired up actuator, mounted in center console • installed center console Been wet sanding the car for 4 straight hours now. This is really where the quality comes through which I wasn't anticipating to be this much of an ordeal but it is, I'm facing it and am trying to get through haha Spent 2.5 hours on the front bumper alone. The rear body work that I did cracked so that set me back. The grille was cracked so I fixed that too. Removed door handles, trying to sand down the edges of everything now. My back is on fire. Painting tonight. Will post pics when I get home. xoxo, krew

So I love me some american muscle sometimes. Ever since I got my first feel for racing when I was 16-17 on the 1/4 mile at the ghetto 75-80 dragstrip in MD, I really fell in love with the whole lifestyle of that scene. Since this project has sort of evolved from a very specific idea to more of a general racing theme (for now, as the original idea calls for a very specific eye for detail), I wanted to try out an idea I had one night pulling from racing slicks. As everyone has seen a set of slicks from hoosier or goodyear with the sidewalls stenciled out with the appropriate logo, I wanted to try it on this project. I'm not sure if it really works or not yet but it was fun to experiment with. Just a lil bit of uniqueness I guess. The logo and example So I made my own logo matching the font and what not in Illustrator and had my neighbour cut out some stencils for me on his vinyl machine. Ready to paint next to my broken planter *sniff*. I just dusted over the stencil because I didn't want it to be laid down too thick. Lil' finishing touch... genuine 9mm casing valve stem Viola. Gonna age the stencil a bit so it will look worn in and I think they're ready to go. Kinda neat =) For those of you who have asked, the wheels are simple beetle steelies. 15x7 painted Mercedes Benz Antique Silver. Simple but unique at the same time.

I'm probably going to write an incredibly lengthy diatribe after this whole thing is said and done with but I'm bored right now, on my 12th wind and have to force myself to wait for my paint to dry so I don't fuck up this project. Anyhoo, what I've learned so far after taking on a project of this caliber with this kind of deadline... 1) when you think it's only going to cost a set amount or if you have a certain budget in mind, multiply it by five and that's how much it's going to cost in the end. 2) cutting corners and trying to get "deals" are more trouble than they are worth. Now that I'm of the age where I have more disposable income than, say the average 20ish dubber, cutting corners just to save money is a pain in the ass. Just spend the money and have it done right the first time. 3) If you're buying a donor engine, MAKE SURE IT RUNS FIRST. If you can't do that, ALWAYS TURN THE MOTOR. If you can't turn it, WALK AWAY. 4) Setting timetables is great and are a necessity but they will always, ALWAYS break. 4) When you take shit off your car, label each and every single piece. Write down on a baggy where it came from to the exact location of the car. Taking pictures is ideal but for gods sake label the pieces. Also, you will need a garage to store parts. Not a bedroom. Because that bedroom gets filled up and the living room is the next location shit gets stored in. 5) Plan ahead. This is the biggest issue I faced. Make sure you plan shit out ahead of time. Make sure you get everything done on the car before you paint. Fabrication and installation is first, never last. 6) You will ALWAYS have fourteen thousand things to do the week before the big show. It always happens and I always get sick because of it. Just wait, saturday night, I'll be running a fever and kate will be telling me that I always get sick and we'll laugh about it afterwards and tell ourselves it will be the last time but it never is =) 7) If you plan on having a girlfriend at the same time you have a project, you better make damn sure said girlfriend is interested in the car and doesn't mind not going on nice dates for the entire summer. It also helps if she wrenches (xoxo boo *swoons) 8) Build it for yourself. If you start building it to impress people, it will never be as good as you want it to be. That being said, the amount of haters you start getting directly coinicides with how fucking badass your car is going to be ;) Well, that's it for now. I'm EXHAUSTED and I've really work out my caps lock key with this one but whatevs. Paint tomorrow. Exhaust and wheels sometime after. Man I need a beer. Thanks again to everyone cheering us on. It's a great stress relief to come home and see so many positive comments. I hope to meet everyone of ya soon and for those going to H20, the beers on us at the show =)

So last night was the night. Finally. I literally flew home, fed the dog, squeezed the poop out of him, grabbed the missus and took off to the shop. It was perfect. Donald had caught up with his paint jobs that day, the weather was just right, the sun was setting. We decided to prime the areas where the bodywork had been done so we masked off the entire car first. It took us close to 20 minutes to mask which even impressed him and he got straight to spraying. After that, kate and I jumped on Roxy like a Pekinese to a couch leg and stripped her bare. The doors, hood and hatch all came off and were laid on saw horses to be masked. Then I started scuffing off the first layer of botched green and got everything ready to be sprayed. It was now 9. Three hours after getting there and we were ready to paint. First Donald painted all of the spare pieces in the booth as kate and I stared on with smiles. Then he sprayed down the inside of the car and all of the jams. While he was spraying, Kate and i sat in the office in safety from the fumes. I couldn't sit still so I stole Bubba's helicopter and started flying it around the street out front. Mind you, here I am, a 6' 3" white boy in a predominantly hispanic industrial complex at 9:30 at night... flying a helicopter. Yeah. Anyways, I go back in the office and in walks Donald. "You want semi-gloss or eggshell?" Fuck. This is exactly what happened last time. The color was perfect and then the clear went down and fucked everything up. I took a guess and just said go with semi-gloss as I would rather the car be glossier than too flat. The best thing about sitting in the office was that Kate and I started talking about random shit and then the conversation turned to memories of family members and it was just really nice to have a great conversation like that. Especially with the gal I was planning to marry. It always seems like the deepest, most meaningful conversations pop up in the most unexpected locations and times. 30 minutes later the gloss was down and it all looked perfect. 10 minutes after that, I noticed white specs showing up in the paint. The fucking matte coat chunked up even after being strained and left lots of little white bumps in the paint. Ugh. The curse continues. We left for the night as it was now 10:30 and I wasn't too stressed. The coat was perfect albeit a little too flat but it was good nonetheless. I was happy. The work went by fast and kate and I drove home to pass out holding hands while we slept. The next day, the alarm went off at 6:15. I woke up like a bolt, all excited to put her back together and I look over and see a passed out and grumbling kate. "Come on come on!" "grumble grumble grumble..." We slapped on some hoodies, rolled over to the shop and Donald is already there. "I did something that's gonna make you happy. I sprayed it again." And fuck if the spots were gone. Donald had come in an hour early and sprayed the whole thing over again just because he wasn't happy with it. I love that man. Anyways, she's home. All put back together and is now green. This weekend I'll button everything up on the inside and hopefully will be adding a custom exhaust into the mix. Monday we'll paint the outside and then this lil project will be done for the time being. Well, at least done for the show. I'll still have a billion little touches to add to make it 100% but that's what next year is for =)

http://www.vh1.com/shows/events/hip_hop_honors/_2007/sites.jhtml?id=hhhsite_7My buddy jmack runs a sweet-ass hip hop site and it just got nominated for a VH1 award. His site is called http://hoodhype.com/ and it's pretty sweet. If you help him win this award it will do three things: • cement the fact that he just won something from VH1. Making him old so I will have something to bust his balls about. • make him rich and hopefully I can get an Escalade out of the deal. • quite possibly get him a threesome with some rap video hos, making his dream of having a threesome with some rap video hos a reality. Thanks and god bless.

Well, being how Roxy has a UK hatch and on that hatch has a recess for a UK number plate, US ones just don't fit without looking goofy. So I broke out the cut off wheel and defaced some government property tonight. Don't worry though, when the plates came in, I ordered a new set just in case I get pulled for these =) After 30 minutes of some fine sanding on the grinding wheel, we get a perfectly straight cut. Viola.

So the 2.9 manifold sucks. Hard. So we replaced it. We have upgraded the kitchen floor shop area with a new rug. Classy. I'm still counting the days until kate realizes that we shouldn't be working on car parts in the kitchen and yells at me =) And I took this pic to show my kids that I was also allowed to wash parts in the kitchen sink. (I do scrub it down afterwards of course =p ) What I thought was an easy job turned into a more involved project due to some bolts being a pain to get out so the whole front end came off. Good thing we did this waaaaaaay early in the morning when people were sleeping haha This will be the last job of this kind now that I'm a homeowner and we really do need to stop working on projects in the carport. *polishes halo* Finally got her buttoned up and I took her out for a spin and damn if you ever need a reason to gut your GTI to see some speed gains, feel free to take Roxy for a spin. I really missed chirping gears. Poor Dara is just too damn heavy as a MK4 to do it anymore haha

So we took a day off from work/Roxy/everything and went up to NYC to go see Underworld (the group not the movie). Upon leaving the house, we found a CD on Kate's windshield. Oh? Macaroni made us a sweet-ass mix CD for the trip! Dope!!! And we got some Roy Rogers *drools* And we drove for like forever. And drove some more. Then we got to walk around the city and stopped to hump on this little number. We went to the show and had to park so we went into a lot that was going to charge us 50 bucks for 4 hours. We said fuck that, backed out and just as we were doing that, this spot opened up the street. I took a picture because this could very well be the first time something of convienence has ever happened in the city before. The show ruled hard. We drove home through times square just for the fuck of it.

So remember that cabrio dash? Well, I put it back in finally along with the Italian Momo wheel as well as the linear actuator: Kinda daunting looking eh? With every project, you are allowed a ONE TIME use of duct tape to jerry rig something together... this is that one time =) Had to fiberglass in a tunnel for the actuator to slide up and down through because I wanted to keep the functionality of the air duct. New plates. Thanks turbo_pumpkin (jason). Ooh la la. Got that gauge to fit like a glove too. Ballleeerr. Classy.

Okes, just downloaded the whole memory card... here we go =) This is the pic of when we blew up the coolant pump due to a bad headgasket on the new engine a month ago... Annnd heres a pic of Roxy being dumped off at the dealer last thursday after getting a cracked oil cooler on the old engine swap that was swaped in after taking the new engine out. Sense a repetive pattern here?

Ok, I am going to just throw caution to the wind here and give y'all an update. Photos are coming, I'm just too lazy to run down to the car and get the cammy. Roxy is home. And running. Well, she not just runs, she chirps third. It’s amazing how quick a GTI feels with a gutted interior and one seat =) Picked her up saturday at the *gasp* dealer and after being successfully raped up the ass (big surprise), she now runs like a champ. I drove her off the lot without any bumpers and the nice 40-something couple who were undoubtedly testing out a T-Reg gave Roxy and I the worst look possible. It was awesome, I felt so white trash. Anyhoo, 2 out of three check engine lights are now fixed, Wieder forgot to plug in the speed sensor at the tranny so now the cluster works, the cam position sensor was replaced with a new one (that I bought almost 6 months ago and never installed thinking I was gonna have a new swap in soon... HA!) and now I'm just stuck with a faulty secondary air system but who needs that shit anyways right? Soooo... saturday I grabbed an old 2.8 manifold, painted it black and with the help of kate, we slapped that bish on in no time and will soon set the POS 2.9 manifold on fire. Honestly, I have NO IDEA why so many people sweat the 2.9 mani's ballsacks so hard as it does more damage than good to the drivability of a VR. Not only is it useless in low RPM’s, it kills torque. I do have to mention that I could not have done this job without kate seeing how she was the brains to my brawn. XOXO Later that night I decided to fix the lack of horn with a nice Ferrari dual trumpet jobbie from our lovely sponsor Griots. I couldn't figure it out in time with no sunlight so it got finished up this morning. SUBNOTES: Don't forget kids, to wire up an aftermarket horn on a MK3, you have to splice the horn signal lead to BOTH the OEM horn wires, not just one or it wont work. Also, you have to ground the ground wires at both plugs as well. That being buttoned up, I fixed the steering wheel, got that tight and straight and then moved onto fixing the fog lights. Now, as you all know, I tried to hook up the OEM fogs to the lower bumper ducts. Hypothetically I got it to work but I forgot to aim the bishes and with them stuck to the bumper via fiberglass, that wasn't happening. Plus when we got towed, the driver ripped off the front bumper along with the fogs (fucker). So I went to the parts store and bought a set of 15$ lil’ mexico specials and wired them up behind the projector lenses. It's a fake out but it looks OEM and now I have the advantage of fine tuning the beam pattern. LASTLY, we scuffed all of the paint up for a second time in hopes that we can get everything painted in one shot. Maybe this week but probably Saturday so cross fingers. Got a lot of work to do. Most definitely won't be 100% at H20 but we will at least have the option of driving there in Roxy. Who knows where she will be in 10 days...

So last night we picked up Roxy from Jason's house. I have to admit that she drove like a bat out of hell almost alllll the way home until we stopped off to grab a bite to eat and then everything went to shit. Her coolant tank was empty so I popped the hood and noticed that when I filled it up, it was just pouring straight out of her at the water pump/thermostat/crack pipe area so I'm hoping it was just a bad seal or a loose fitting. It was too dark and I had no tools to fix her last night which sucked. We left her there overnight and kate took the day off to meet big mike and wieder there this morning. Now we have a nice team of misfits wrenching on her in the middle of a random parking lot while I sit here in a cosy room taking a training course for work. Good times. So hopefully she will get fixed post haste and we can start paint prep tonight and macaroni will be coming by to help out as well =) I don't want to get my hopes up as when it seems that I do, the curse pops it's little head back up and fucks me in the rump. BTW, I sat down on a chair at lunch which had been rained on so now I have a 12" diameter stain of wetness right in the vicinity of my taught little asshole. Yeah, now I look like I crapped my pants. As if I didn't have enough on my plate God ya just had to get that last little jab in eh? Thanks a lot, ass.

Well, to put it lightly, I am officially broken. This has been the most stressful project of my life not due to it's size but due to the fact that it just comes at a time in my life where I can't take anymore of anything. It's so strange how I've been so light in terms of important factors in my life for the past few years but all of a sudden, things like buying a house, getting married, getting bills in check, medical issues etc etc all come aty the same exact time. Kate has been a blessing just by taking care of me through the whole thing. Not to go into other life details but working on Roxy last night really put me at ease, even though I was honestly looking for jersey barriers to drive into on the way home from work. I am elbows deep in the worst, most stressful three months of my life lately. I would quit this project but I really think it would hurt me more to look at her unfinished so I proceed on. I slept for shit last night, getting home and in bed at 1am after finishing up the engine swap. I wasn't tired but simply put on autopilot. I tossed and turned and at 4am I was WIDE awake but asleep at the same time. All I could think about was EVERYTHING. Cars, work, projects, family, kate; every piece of stress that I had in my life all at once. It was almost surreal how quickly and "thickly" it all came in to my brain. It was just too much. Kate, obviously half awake due to my inability to sleep, rolled over and rubbed my neck while I jabbered on about the horrible ideas I was thinking of to stop the flood of thoughts in my head. I remember now how serene I grew just because she was there right next to me, putting me back to the ground. This thing has really taught me a lot. On our way home last night when NO ONE was on the highway, we laughed at the fact that last year, the biggest mod we did was a valve cover gasket on a MK2. This years project skipped so many steps in our education that it is almost understandable at how many times we have been kicked to the ground. I'm proud of our accomplishments this season. The biggest thing I've learned is that if you don't enjoy the process then you shouldn't do it and I am certainly paying for it now. If I don't die this month, I sure as shit am gonna take it easy next year. The only mod I'm gonna work on is my beer belly. (this is a car blog not a livejournal right? haha)

Well, it's official. This is the beginning of the end. See that countdown timer up there? Well, that's how much time "we" have and I say "we" because Roxy no longer has just Kate and I, she has a gawtdamn team working on her. Yeah, we decided to get this bish together as best we can for H2O. Come hell or highwater, she is going to be there. Painted or unpainted. Running or being pushed. We're gonna do the best we can to finish her up. If she isn't done at least we can say we tried and there is always next year. What does that mean? Well, she was dropped off at Jason's last night so Wieder and Chinn can pull the fucked up motor out and put the semi-fucked but running like a draft horse old motor back in. Then it's off to paint. I spoke with Bubba's number one painter last night and he agreed to do the entire car. So, we are going to start over. We're going to repaint the door jams, then the interior and finally the body. All over again. Kate is getting the last wheel and tire mounted today. After paint, we're going to a very special exhaust fabricator to get her a new voice. And then the fun begins. Allllll of the little detail work begins. Putting her back together. New interior, finish up the dash, the stereo, the seats, all of the gizmos in the engine bay. Then we get to dump the fuck out of her and put her in the weeds. All the while I have to create a 30+ page magazine for my moms non-profit project before the show AS WELL AS get Jason's bodykit painted. This is going to be exciting to say the least. Can we do it? Am I going to have a real heart attack? Is kate going to run to the corner and hide in terror? Will Wieder even wake up friday morning to start the swap? STAY TUNED BITCHES!

Ok so we lost our ocean pines spot and picked up a sweet spot TWO BLOCKS from Hooters. That means you are all invited to our crib to get some pre-game buzz action on Saturday night for the traditional Hooters cruise. Then we can all stumble over or safely drive inebriated to Hooters as the parking lot and our street are all connected. Score! Exact location in a few days =) jkrate® is in no way responsible for any dead babies that occur when you all drive from our drinking fiesta™ to Hooters.

Sorry for the 100th emo entry kids... yesterday sucked some huge cock and I wasn't really in the best state of mind. Some people drink and beat their wives. I just drink and post. It works out better for kate that way. Anyways, looks like H20 isn't gonna be the place we unveil Roxy this year. No sense in rushing it after so much time has been spent on her. Works out better for her so I can really nit pick over the winter making her 110% perfect for the spring. Does it suck? Fucking yes it does. It's really one of the most dissapointing things I've had to deal with all year. And that's really sad because it's just a fucking car. Anyways, we're gonna hoof it up to H20 in Dara seeing how she's been the ugly cousin for two seasons now anyways. Time to get the clay bar out and do our thing. Plus, she's way better at burnouts at Hooters anyways. Thanks guys.

During college, I drove a black MK3 2.0. Her name was Dara. I wanted a VR so bad that I even put VR6 badges on her. I was a total poser and I knew it but I didn't really care and this is the first time I have really told anyone about this stupid n00b fact. My last year of school I met a mechanic at the only VW dealer in Savannah who told me he could swap in a passat VR6 in exchange for some stereo gear of mine. I was sold. Two months later, after having walked to class that entire semester, I had had enough. Broken promise after broken promise I just couldn't take it anymore so my friend and I drove the 30 minutes to his house, demanded he put the old 2.0 back in and we drove out of there. He didn't connect the AC or put any coolant in. He simply bolted the engine back in and kicked me off his property. I was forced to sink or swim and put her back together as best I could just so she could get me back home at the end of the semester. I drove her home to only have her die as soon as I got back into Maryland. The next day my mom and I limped her to the dealer where she died on the lot and I bought the MK4 that I have today. That poor car that was a fine 2.0 pretty much gave her life for my stupidity. I honest to God killed that car by my own doing. And so began the curse of MK3's for me. This current project, albeit having a few positives, has been nothing but one stress after another and I'm done. I don't really want to answer any questions about why I'm deciding to do this as, if you know me, then you should already know why but I'm done. I've spent too much money, too much time and been too much of a burden to all of my friends especially kate regarding this project and I can't take this anymore. It stopped being fun for me months ago and in the past week I have received one bit of bad news after another and I am close to breaking down all over a fucking piece of metal. She is now for sale as is. I'm asking $4000 for everything I have with this car as she sits right now in my parking lot. She is drivable to any location within reason. Anything more than a few hours of driving time will have to be done carefully.
The price includes: • a new set of wheels and tires • a cabrio dash • a one of a kind stereo • one of a kind bodywork and engine • custom reupholstered recaro 12-way adjustable seats • 2.9 clone manifold • new engine seals, water pump, billet crackpipe, AC condenser etc etc etc • euro shaved hatch • H&R coilovers • upgraded larger drilled brakes front and rear with new pads
I also have all original seats/interior, dash and a newly reupholstered headliner and pillars.
With $1500 more and some time you will have a one of a kind show car. Period. If you don't have the resources to finish the car, I can gladly point you in the direction of fully capable people that can help you out. I have all the supplies you need to finish her paint. She will need to be prepped from scratch but everything is ready to go.
I'm surely missing lots of little one-ofs that go along with this price but if you are truly interested, I will happily talk shop and go over what is needed and what has already been done.
Thanks.
